Care and Support

Paul said: In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said:  It is more blessed to give than to receive.   Acts 20:35

We strive to reach out to all in our community and beyond, offering Christ’s care and encouragement, with radical hospitality and extravagant generosity. Our United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men serve myriad needs within our community and beyond. Numerous other diverse programs target care and support to those with special needs.

For example, nine lay people trained to serve in the Stephen Ministry provide caring ministry to people in crisis. They help the pastor with a continuing ministry to people who are grieving, in long-term care, dying, hospitalized, divorcing, experiencing loss through aging, struggling with a new baby or other crises. The Stephen Ministry program is led by Lowell and Susan Mize.

At those times when the loss of a loved one saddens the hearts of those left here, the Bereavement Committee led by Betty Johnson and Donna Hammons, steps in to help with immediate family needs. Christian fellowship through the sharing of a meal by the family and others immediately after the funeral service is a major part of how this committee shares Christ’s care and encouragement.

Stockton UMC is one of four sponsoring churches in the community that provides drivers for the Meals on Wheels program. Drivers deliver meals provided by the Korth Senior Center of Stockton to the homes of seniors and others needing assistance who cannot travel to those meals. Drivers volunteer through the church office and serve on a rotating basis.
