United Methodist Men

Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus: “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining the fullness of Christ.  Ephesians 4:11-14

The United Methodist Men (UMM) of Stockton United Methodist Church join together for Christian fellowship over a hearty breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month in the Family Life Center. The men rotate cooking and clean-up duty.

The fellowship usually consists of a short devotional, an interesting program presented by members or guests, and a short business meeting. The business meeting, the shortest portion of the morning, covers outreach or mission needs, finances and similar topics.

The men participate in a number of church programs, including:

  • The weekly prison ministry for men in the Cedar County Jail
  • Cutting and delivering firewood for those who need it to warm their homes
  • Financial support for Exodus House, a ministry for paroled women in nearby Bolivar
  • Financial support for the Angel Tree ministry which provides gifts for the children of prisoners at Christmas
  • Meeting Job Jar needs (the Job Jar is a jar in which those in need of help from lawn mowing to plumbing to carpentry can write an appeal)
  • Supporting the local Cub Scout troop
  • Periodic clean-up of an adopted section of State Highway 32 on the west side of Stockton
